What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. Hypnosis is where you are guided into an altered state of consciousness by the therapist, here techniques such as positive suggestions, regression or future progression are used to facilitate change and you are then brought back to your normal waking consciousness.

What can it help with?

  • Weight management
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Get rid of your fears & phobias
  • Increase your confidence
  • Improve your sex life
  • Manage your stress and anxiety….and much more!

Does it work and how?

There is no debate in the medical world as to whether hypnotherapy works or not, scientific studies have proved it works. It has been endorsed by the British Medical Association and has been used as a form of therapy since the 1800’s. Many people have reported positive and long lasting results. Hypnotherapy works by altering our conscious state in a way so that the unconscious is made more alert. Our unconscious is a non analytical, instinctive force so for us to make the changes we want, we need to address the unconscious mind. The more you want to change, expect to change and are prepared to work in you changing, the better results you will have.

Is it safe?

Hypnotherapy is perfectly safe. In fact most people naturally enter into a hypnotic state several times a day i.e. when you day dream, when you read a book and your imagination takes over. It is very like before you go to sleep, you feel very comfortable, relaxed yet you still have full awareness and self control. You do not go to sleep, so there is nothing to worry about not waking up. It is not possible to make anyone do anything against their will under hypnosis.

What happens in a session?

Firstly an initial consultation takes place to assess what form of therapy would be best for you. All therapy is tailored completely for you as an individual and the issues that you want to address. In a private room, you are helped to relax by the therapist and guided into a hypnotic state, this is when the therapy takes place. The hypnotherapist then brings you back to your original waking consciousness; often you are left feeling more alert and refreshed then before. A session usually lasts for 1 hour unless you are on one of my specific Programmes.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on the person and on the issues being treated. Each person is different and some issues are dealt with quicker than others. There is no one treatment that fits all, so some people may only need one session where as others may feel they need a few more sessions.
